This gathering is a time-honoured traditional fellowship where devotees make offerings (such as flowers\, fruits\, love donation\, usable vegan food items) from their hearts and the choicest blessings are bestowed by the lineage of spiritual masters. His Holiness will bless each devotee and family member with special care for children accompanying their parents. \nWe encourage and welcome you to bring your families and children. Children wanting to listen to the stories during a class session by His Holiness are most welcome to join. Some sessions with His Holiness will be appropriate for children aged 3-12\, but there will also be the option for children aged 3-12 to participate in special children’s activities. To learn more about bringing your children and teens\, please read the sections below labeled “Children’s Camp” and “Teenage Participants. \nThe children’s camp is designed to help parents manifest a family experience within the limitations of the venue\, volunteering and other resources. While the children’s camp allows for parents to attend classes and sessions\, it is not designed to completely free up parent(s) from their own initiative to look after and interact with their children. The retreat schedule allows the flexibility for a combined retreat-vacation supportive of a family experience. \nMeals & Lodging Accommodations\nYour retreat includes three nights of accommodation plus two meals per day. Vegetarian meals\, which are gluten-free and mostly vegan\, will be lovingly prepared according to sattwic Ayurvedic principles. The lodging is apartment style. Each apartment has 4 bedrooms\, 2 bathrooms\, a living room and a kitchen. Individuals will be assigned to shared same-gender apartments. Thus MahāŚivarātri is celebrated on the night of 28th February 2022 coinciding with soli-lunar month of Māgha-kr̥ṣṇa-caturdaśi in California. \nMeditating on this auspicious evening and through the night is a practice of alertness meant to supersede the daytime awake state as a memorable experience. In such a vigilant state there exists the possibility of understanding the play of time and timelessness. \nThis night is dedicated to the Lord of Time\, Śiva – who is also known as the Mahākāleśwara. The great Lord Śiva is said to be dancing while sounding his drumbeat to the tune of dissolution. Through his dance of death\, he is urging us not to waste time and reminding us that time is most precious. He beckons us to utilize the time mindfully before death. \nLord Śiva is said to be lingotbhava – or emerging out of a lingam thereby manifesting from a ellipsoidal symbol of time capsule. The lingam is also a symbol of life burgeoning and blossoming in time. The Sanskrit heritage points to the entry of Śivatattwa (essential principle of Śiva) into the earthly waters in the form of an elongated cylindrical-ellipsoidal asteroid which then gave rise to the nucleotide bases upon reacting with water. During this Fellowship\, His Holiness will reveal some of the riveting mysteries through the selected audio-visual clips during his message about the significance of this night. \nWe will be streaming via live video on Zoom from Santa Barbara\, California. He moved into the seat of Sanskrit learning\, Varanasi thereafter for his reclusive contemplation. He lived a uniquely monastic lifestyle in that he only took alms once a day and spent rest of his mornings and evening dedicated to the practice of higher yoga and deep study of advanced Sanskrit literature. Over time the families who invited him for once a day alms (lunch) swelled up to a thousand\, thereby making each family wait longer for his darshan and fellowship. \nHe was seen to exhibit extraordinary floating and swimming abilities while taking his daily ablutions in river Ganga. As he primarily walked everywhere and comforted all passersby with his compassion\, he became well known as Prabhuji (alike the Lord) of Varanasi. Even the irate bulls of Varanasi understood Prabhuji and yielded way to him whenever their paths crossed. \nAs part of the Hansavedas Monastic Council\, HH Swami Atmanananda maintained the Hari Bhawan Sanskrit Rare Books Library in Varanasi\, India. He was involved in the council over a period of two decades advising about the translation and research work on Sanskrit literature as well as assisting with the structure of holistic curriculum. \nMany devotees had the opportunity to travel to Varanasi\, India to sit at the feet of HH Swami Atmananda and often remarked that Prabhuji was an institution in himself. All devotees were impressed by the oratory skills of Prabhuji and how quickly he could spiritually resolve dilemmas.
