He moved into the seat of Sanskrit learning\, Varanasi thereafter for his reclusive contemplation. He lived a uniquely monastic lifestyle in that he only took alms once a day and spent rest of his mornings and evening dedicated to the practice of higher yoga and deep study of advanced Sanskrit literature. Over time the families who invited him for once a day alms (lunch) swelled up to a thousand\, thereby making each family wait longer for his darshan and fellowship. \nHe was seen to exhibit extraordinary floating and swimming abilities while taking his daily ablutions in river Ganga. As he primarily walked everywhere and comforted all passersby with his compassion\, he became well known as Prabhuji (alike the Lord) of Varanasi. Even the irate bulls of Varanasi understood Prabhuji and yielded way to him whenever their paths crossed. \nAs part of the Hansavedas Monastic Council\, HH Swami Atmanananda maintained the Hari Bhawan Sanskrit Rare Books Library in Varanasi\, India. He was involved in the council over a period of two decades advising about the translation and research work on Sanskrit literature as well as assisting with the structure of holistic curriculum. \nMany devotees had the opportunity to travel to Varanasi\, India to sit at the feet of HH Swami Atmananda and often remarked that Prabhuji was an institution in himself. All devotees were impressed by the oratory skills of Prabhuji and how quickly he could spiritually resolve dilemmas. This special workshop is an opportunity for worship of the great Śrī śakti and veneration of the Divine Mother Kamalātmikā Mahālaxmī. \nParticipants will learn Srisuktam chanting under His Holiness’s guidance over the nine night period of Navarātri and ending on the tenth day. Experience an up close and beginner level hands on workshop on Himalayan siddha breathing techniques. Learn correct ujjāyī prāṇāyāma by feeling the pelvic floor and learn ujjāyī kumbhaka breathhold suspension. Practice this correct ujjāyī breathing utilizing the myofascial psoas\, a deep-seated band of muscle that connects the diaphragm\, spine and pelvis (as shown in the photo illustration above). \nYou will be taught this prāṇāyāma by activating the psoas in a way that allows for a three-dimensional cylindrical breathing. The breath is controlled by breathing from the core\, and prolonged using the ujjāyī method of inhalation. This thoraco-pelvic breathing allows one to feel the breath down to the pelvic floor. The diaphragm is properly utilized thereby releasing tension from the sternum. \nA practitioner of this ujjāyī prāṇāyāma technique takes a stepwise approach: (1) Activating the psoas during breathing\, (2) Feeling the breath down to the pelvis\, (3) Controlling the thoraco-pelvic breath from the core (five fingers below the belly-button)\, (4) making the breath deeper and prolonged by using the ujjāyī method\, (5) Applying kumbhaka breathhold for a suspension of the breath without struggle\, using the same singular effort used for the inhalation. As a warm up preparatory stretch to activate and balance the psoas\, simple yoga-vinyāsa selections from the Tāl̥āsanā krama such as stretching\, bending\, twisting\, half-squatting and full squatting will be practiced. \nCalmness is experienced during the breaths and during the pauses in between. The gentle guided movement of the spine and the sternum brings about emotional release. These universities of ancient India seamlessly combined mathematics with meditation\, philosophy with music\, and yoga with art among many other interwoven diverse parts of the Sanskrit-based curriculum. Unfortunately\, the current education system has ignored the scientific value of this Sanskrit-based learning system and does not support the extant traditional education platforms. \nErstwhile colonial administration sponsored skewed studies to purposely misconstrue the cultural and historical heritage of India. We will offer our twilight contemplative peace walk at the beach for our community well-being during the interlude of sunset (7:47pm) and moonrise (7:41pm) just hours before the night leading to the peak full moon on Thursday morning at 5:29am. \nWe will meet at 7:15pm at East Beach in Santa Barbara (East of the volleyball courts). You will be greeted by volunteers. SUMMARY:Himalayan Psoas Breathing Workshop

Experience an up close and hands on workshop on Himalayan siddha breathing techniques to learn correct ujjāyī breathing utilizing the myofascial psoas\, a deep-seated band of muscle that connects the diaphragm\, spine and pelvis (as shown in the photo illustration). \nPractice prāṇāyāma by activating the psoas that allows for a three-dimensional cylindrical breathing. The breath can then be controlled by breathing from the core\, and prolonged using the ujjāyī method of prāṇāyāma. This thoraco-pelvic breathing allows one to feel the breath down to the pelvic floor. The diaphragm is properly utilized thereby releasing tension from the sternum. This foundational breathwork is needed to fulfil the intended goal of guiding prāṇa in spinal breathing techniques. \nA practitioner of this prāṇāyāma technique takes a stepwise approach: (1) Activating the psoas during breathing\, (2) Feeling the breath down to the pelvis\, (3) Controlling the thoraco-pelvic breath from the core (five fingers below the belly-button)\, (4) making the breath deeper and prolonged by using the ujjāyī method\, (5) Guiding the prāṇa upward along the centre of the spinal tube during inhalation\, (6) Guiding the prāṇa downward along the back of the spinal tube during exhalation\, and (7) integrating the parts for an experience of breath felt in the pelvis while the current of prāṇa moves in the spinal tube. Calmness is experienced during the breaths and during the pauses in between. \nThe gentle guided movement of the spine and the sternum brings about emotional release. Practice of this correct breathwork is highly conducive for meditation\, vitality and wellness. A selection of the topics and techniques that will be covered includes: \n– Correct ujjāyī breathing from the core\n– Thoraco-pelvic psoas breathing\n– 3D cylindrical deep breathing\n– Breathing down to the pelvic floor\n– Guiding prāṇa along the spinal tube\n– Breathing synchronized with Oṃ chant \nHis Holiness Swami Vidyadhishananda is a yogi-monk who reveals to us rare prāṇāyāma and meditation techniques from the Himalayan siddha tradition. He hails from lineages of meditation adepts that are from a combined heritage of rishi sages and nath yogis. \nTravel & Flights\nFor those coming from out of town\, we recommend flying into either LAX or SBA. SBA is half an hour drive from our centre\, whereas LAX is minimum 2 hour drive. Car rental may not be necessary\, but could be helpful. We will meet at 6:45pm at East Beach in Santa Barbara (east of the volleyball courts). After the peace walk at the beach and moonrise\, we will practice open eye meditation on the full moon sitting on the beach (please bring your own blanket and warm clothing). Sunset is at 7:10pm and moonrise is at 7:09pm. \nWeather permitting we will be seated for open eye meditation from 6:30pm onward when the full moon is visible on the Eastern horizon.
